About Halzio

The community deserved
better. So we built it.

Halzio is Britain's first halal and South Asian grocery marketplace — built not from a business plan, but from a lived frustration. We exist to back local merchants, represent our community, and build something our generation can finally call its own.

The founding story

Something was wrong. Everyone felt it.
Nobody fixed it.

Walk into the average ethnic supermarket in Britain and you know immediately. The layout hasn't changed in twenty years. The technology is non-existent. There's no app, no delivery, no online presence — just shelves that haven't been optimised since before the smartphone existed. And yet the families who shop there are the same families checking Deliveroo, scrolling Instagram, and ordering everything else in their lives with a single tap.

The gap wasn't about the products. The products were often brilliant — authentic, trusted, generational. The gap was structural. Independent halal merchants — butchers, grocers, wholesalers who had served British Muslim and South Asian families for decades — simply lacked the technical know-how and the resources to compete in a world that had moved on without them. While the big supermarket chains invested millions in digital infrastructure, the corner shop that actually understood the community was being quietly left behind.

“There was no halal brand that spoke to who we actually are. We are British. We are Muslim. We are South Asian. We are modern and rooted at the same time — and nothing existed that reflected that fusion.”

— Ali Bukhari, Founder & CEO

That was the moment Halzio was born — not from a gap in a spreadsheet, but from a genuine frustration felt by millions of people across this country who deserved a brand that understood them, backed their local businesses, and moved at the speed of their lives.

Halzio does not replace the local shop. It gives it a future.

Our mission

The brand that finally represents you.

Halzio exists to empower independent halal merchants with the digital presence, tools, and reach they have always deserved — while giving British Muslim and South Asian consumers one certified, trusted destination for everything halal. We back local businesses over corporations. We celebrate the fusion of British culture and Islamic values. And we are building a platform that grows with our community — from grocery today, to every corner of the halal lifestyle tomorrow.

Our values

What we stand for.

  • 01

    We back local, unconditionally

Every pound on Halzio flows back into the community. Independent halal merchants get a protected digital territory, real analytics, and the tools that were once only available to retail giants.

  • 02

Halal is our promise, not a feature

Every merchant and every product meets rigorous halal certification and food safety standards before appearing on our platform. Trust, once given, is never traded away — not for speed, not for scale.

  • 03

    A generation that belongs everywhere

British Muslims and South Asians are not caught between two cultures — they are the best of both. Halzio is built in that image: rooted in heritage, fluent in modernity, unapologetically here.

  • 04

    Built for where we're going

Grocery is the foundation. As our community's needs expand — into fashion, services, lifestyle, and beyond — Halzio expands with them. One trusted brand. Every vertical. Always halal.

Social enterprise

Profit with purpose. Giving back is built in.

Halzio is a social enterprise. That is not a marketing line — it is a structural commitment. A portion of every transaction on the platform is directed towards community initiatives that strengthen the very people who make Halzio possible. Because a business that takes from a community without giving back is not a community business at all.

  • Food poverty relief

Supporting local food banks and hunger initiatives within British Muslim and South Asian communities.

  • Education & skills

Funding digital literacy and business skills programmes for independent merchants and young entrepreneurs.

  • Community spaces

Partnering with mosques, community centres, and grassroots organisations to reinvest where it matters most.

Our vision

To become the defining halal brand of modern Britain — a platform as ambitious as the community it was built for.

From Birmingham, Bradford, London, Leeds, Manchester to Glasgow— Halzio is building a national ecosystem rooted in local trust. Starting with food, because food is where community begins. Expanding into every vertical our community needs, because our community's needs don't stop at the checkout.

“The local shop never went away. We just gave it the platform it always deserved.”

HALZIO

Empowering communities. Championing local. Building the future of halal.
